Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) Program
Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) is a discipline of gymnastics based on stylized, natural total body movement. The sport involves harmonious, rhythmic, and dynamic movements performed with economical and natural use of strength. There is a natural flow from one movement to the next, as if each movement is created from the previous one. All movements must be performed fluently, showing amplitude and variety in the dynamics and speed. The composition must contain versatile and varied body movements, such as body waves, and swings, balances and pivots, jumps and leaps, dance steps, and lifts. Physical qualities such as flexibility, speed, strength, coordination, and ability to move effortlessly are required. A competitive group consists of 6 to 10 gymnasts. Teamwork and unity are essential. Choreography using expressive interpretation of music through movements creates a story. Our Elite Aesthetic Group Gymnastics groups have travelled the world and thrilled audiences with their colourful performances from local community events to prestigious international events such as World Gymnaestradas in Denmark 1987, Holland 1991, and Germany 1995 where they presented Canada in the Gala performances, Sweden in 1999, Portugal in 2003 and Austria 2007.
These groups also compete at Aesthetic Group Gymnastics competitions locally in the "Red Ribbon" competition, and International competitions including AGG World Championships.
Elite performance programmes offer the more advanced gymnasts the opportunity to further improve their skills and technique. Advance level skills are choreographed into enjoyable performances requiring many hours of practise. Ritmika Ladies Elite were the first group of its kind in Canada. They are best known for their entertaining performances and skilful handling of not just 1 or 2, but 3 balls in motion. The Ladies Elite group is made up of women of varying ages who share these common interests - love for the sport, joy of performing, desire to be physically fit and enjoyment of each other's company. Over the years, the Ladies Elite group have proudly represented Ritmika and Canada at numerous World and Canadian Gymnaestradas. They performed at many special events and competed at the Red Ribbon AGG competitions, where they have been unbeatable in their category.
Acceptance to Elite and AGG groups is usually by tryouts. Gymnasts in these groups train intensively, learn to work with each other as a group and perfect several routines each year. The elite gymnasts require a greater commitment but in return they enjoy the privilege of representing Ritmika and Canada in many events.
