RIO – Alexandra Orlando of Toronto won three gold medals on Saturday in rhythmic gymnastics at the Pan Am Games while Karen Cockburn and Rosannagh MacLennan, both from Toronto, were 1-2 in women’s trampoline.

Alexandra Orlando Canada's closing flagbearer

Rio de Janeiro - July 29, 2007 - Alexandra Orlando of Toronto carried the Canadian team's flag into Maracana Stadium for the closing ceremonies of the XV Pan American Games.
“I’m surprised and honoured to be selected as Canada’s flagbearer,” said Orlando, who won three gold medals in the individual hoop, rope and club apparatus finals. “So many Canadian athletes have had great performances here and it’s going to be a proud moment to represent them by carrying the Canadian flag into the stadium.”
She was also the 2006 Commonwealth Games closing flagbearer for Canada in Melbourne, Aus., having won all six gold medals available there. |

Canadian rhythmic gymnasts win four apparatus final medals

Rio de Janeiro - July 28, 2007 - Toronto's Alexandra Orlando won three gold medals in the rope, hoop, and clubs finals while the rhythmic group from Vancouver won their second bronze medal in the five ropes final at Riocentro in the XV Pan American Games.

Canadian gymnasts won a total of nine medals including a gold and two silvers in trampoline from earlier in the day, three gold and two bronze in rhythmic, and one bronze for the women's artistic team on July 14th. |
